THE ARK BAND – Na Give Up

Product Description

REVIEW
The Ohio-based Ark Band is steadily growing into one of America’s more popular reggae groups, and this 1995 debut provides ample evidence why. Their sound is vary accessible: up-beat pop-inclined roots, something like Third World or perhaps Mystic Revealers. The rudimentary cover art aside, the music on Na Give Up is fun and instantly likeable, although I could do without some of the jarring rock guitar bridges on songs like “Oh Jah,” “Missing You,” and the title track. The songwriting here succeeds at being catchy, and the vocals are sincere enough to largely avoid a sugary sentimentality. Although the last 4 tracks lack the spark of the first 6, there is some great stuff to be found: the airy roots of “Hustler” in particular sounds like a classic, while “Oh Jah” and the sweet lovers rock of “Roses” also shine brightly.
